3D printing – taking stethoscopes from 1816 into the future

The stethoscope is a medical device commonly used for assessing lung and heart sounds, as well as taking a non digital blood pressure. It consists of a small disc-shaped resonator that is placed against the skin, with either one or two tubes connected to two earpieces. It is standard equipment in hospitals for nurses, Doctors and physiotherapists.

It was invented in 1816 by Rene Laennec, a French physician and musician.

Every student enrolled in a health course is familiar with this piece of equipment. But what virtually non realize is that the same standard of sound for a traditional stethoscope can be achieved by using 3D printing equipment.
